Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Josh Taylor was admitted to the bar in Indiana in 2006. Josh grew up in Fishers and attended Hamilton Southeastern High School. His undergraduate degrees (History and German) were obtained from Indiana University in 2002 and his law degree from Indiana University – McKinney School of Law in 2006. Following his graduation from law school, Josh worked as a deputy prosecutor in Hamilton County. Josh and has been in private practice for over a decade.
Josh represents the State of Indiana in sixteen counties throughout the state in the prosecution of forfeiture actions. He has recovered over $1,000,000 in asset forfeiture for the State of Indiana. Currently, he chairs the asset forfeiture group at RileyCate, LLC.
Josh also has extensive experience in criminal defense and personal injury. Josh is not unfamiliar with the courtroom having tried over twenty (20) criminal jury trials to verdict and hundreds of bench trials throughout the state. He also played an integral role in the United States Supreme Court Opinion of Timbs v. Indiana, 139 S. Ct. 682 (2019), a landmark decision impacting the area of forfeiture law. The Timbs case has been sent back for further litigation. Recently, additional oral argument was heard by the Indiana Supreme Court.
In addition to the Timbs case, Josh played an integral role in crafting Indiana law by serving as co-counsel on the case State of Indiana v. A.R., another case heard by the Indiana Supreme Court. In the A.R. case, the Indiana Supreme Court issued an opinion impacting a police officer’s ability to conduct a traffic stop based upon a phone call.
Josh resides in Fishers with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys the outdoors, exploring, Jeeping and traveling. He is also fluent in conversational German.
He focuses his practice on the areas of personal injury, criminal defense, expungements, and civil asset forfeiture.
